Zakat in Zakatee
How does Zakatee calculate my Zakat?
You add what you own to each Zakat category — cash and savings, gold, silver, business stock, shares, mutual funds, receivables, livestock and agriculture. Personal-use items can be recorded too, but they are exempt and are not counted.
Zakatee then checks whether your zakatable wealth has reached the nisab and follows your haul (lunar year). It shows the Zakat due for each category and in total — 2.5% for most kinds of wealth such as cash, gold, silver, trade goods and investments. Livestock and agricultural produce have their own rules, which the app applies for those categories.
What is nisab, and where do the thresholds come from?
Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a person must own before Zakat becomes due. It is traditionally measured against the value of gold or silver. Zakatee uses gold and silver nisab thresholds that are maintained and kept up to date by our team.
What is the haul?
The haul is one full lunar year — about 354 days — during which wealth at or above the nisab is held. Zakatee tracks your haul so you can see when your Zakat becomes due.
Is Zakatee a fatwa?
No. Zakatee’s rules follow commonly accepted positions and are reviewed by scholars, but its results are indicative. Opinions differ between scholars and schools, so for complex situations please ask a scholar you trust.
Can I record the Zakat I have paid?
Yes. You can log your Zakat payments and look back at your history of calculations and payments. Payments are made by you outside the app — Zakatee does not process any payments.
Personal finance
What else can I track?
You can record income and expenses, set budgets, create savings goals and follow your progress with charts.
Does Zakatee connect to my bank?
No. Everything is entered manually by you. Zakatee never asks for bank or card credentials.
Is Zakatee available in Arabic and in dark mode?
Yes. Zakatee is fully bilingual in English and Arabic, and supports both light and dark mode.
